April 2008
Kimberly Mayo
Kim Mayo is a caring person; she is someone who offers a
nurturing and compassionate shoulder when it’s needed and
yet, Kim is also able to spice up a situation with her
energy and zest. This combination of compassion and
enthusiasm comes in part because Kim has overcome challenges
over the past few years that have greatly affected her
outlook on life and her personality. Academically, Kim
challenges herself with honors and AP classes and balances
her classes with opportunities that allow her creative side
to flourish. As a positive, active participant of the
Uxbridge School community, Kim demonstrates her versatility
and passion through several venues: an enthusiastic member
of the Music Program; a member of the golf team, where she
was named co-captain this past fall and has been the only
female on the team for all four years; a Student Mentor
since 2006; a member of the School Council, participating in
various community service activities; and the secretary of
Students Against Destructive Decisions. Most notably, Kim’s
leadership skills have been an asset to UHS. Just recently,
the Destination Imagination program, of which she has been a
member since sixth grade, began the road to their “grand
finale”. Kim’s determination and desire brought a frustrated
team back together and its accumulated success placed it in
real contention at the state competition this April. At the
end of the regional competition, Kim was presented with two
spirit awards – recognition of the dynamic person Kim is.
Kim’s warm heart and common sense equips her with skills
that will foster success in all of her future endeavors.
John Heron
John Heron is an outstanding young man. He has one of the
friendliest faces and “hellos” at Uxbridge High School,
making everyone’s day a bit brighter. Johnny, as he is
affectionately known, is a diligent student who works hard,
completes all his class work and homework on a consistent
basis, and is willing to assist his peers when needed. He
boasts a solid B+/A- average. As a dedicated and responsible
worker, he goes “above and beyond” what is expected of him,
taking tremendous pride in the work that he is assigned. One
example of this is the energy he puts into his job at
Milestone’s Ultimate Hot Dogs in downtown Uxbridge, where he
has established himself as a dependable and gracious
employee. Johnny is an active participant of the Special
Olympics where he competes in such sports as soccer,
basketball, and track and field. He is an avid shopper and
displays his love with the latest Red Sox gear. Johnny has
also been the coach of the faculty team during the annual
student-faculty basketball game. He is a caring person who
works hard to overcome any physical and academic challenges
that face him. His spirit is fundamental to the halls of
Uxbridge High School.
