  KINDERGARTEN INFORMATION

Registration

Kindergarten registration will take place January 28th through January 30th, 2008 at the Early Learning Center, 11 Church Street, Uxbridge. Registration hours are 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. On Wednesday, January 30th, there will be extended hours from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

In accordance with the District Policy 620, the minimum entrance age for kindergarten is 5 years of age as of September 1st of the year the child enters school.  Please have your child's birth certificate, social security number, and proof of Uxbridge residence (any recent utility bill that shows your name and street address on it).

We offer full day tuition based kindergarten with limited space. Tuition is $2800 for the year. If you are interested in full day kindergarten you can sign up for the lottery when you come to register your child.

Please call the Early Learning Center if you have any questions (508-234-9164).

Screening

All children who are of age to enter kindergarten shall be screened. Screening takes place in June, prior to a child’s entrance into kindergarten. Families will receive a letter in May with the dates and times for screening. Parents need to call the number that is on the letter to set up an appointment to have their child screened. The purpose of kindergarten screening is to gain information regarding your child’s developmental skills such as how they use their body (motor skills), knowledge of basic concepts like counting and colors (conceptual skills), and their use of language.

The skills described above have proved important in helping predict a child’s success in the classroom. The screening tests can help to identify if the child’s skills are appropriate for his/her age at this time or if further testing may be needed. This information can help plan your child’s education, and if necessary, begin to look at any special needs that he/she may have in the school setting.

Letters will be sent home to families in early July detailing the results of the screening.

Classes

Because it is impossible for buses to pick up and drop off in all areas of town, assignments are made to morning or afternoon sessions based upon efficient, timely bus routes during the mid-day runs. Bus routes will be published in the local newspapers.

Full Day: 8:30 a.m.-2:50 p.m.
AM Session: 8:30 a.m.-11:10 a.m.
PM Session: 12:10 p.m.-2:50 p.m.

Tuition

Tuition for the full day program is $2,800 annually. A registration fee of $280 is due upon your child’s acceptance into the program and will be credited towards your last installment payment. A payment plan is available in ten month installments, due on the 15th of each month beginning in August. Final payment will be due on April 15th. In case of tardy payments, a fee of $25 will be assessed. The Town Collector’s Office will charge a $25 fee for returned checks. Checks should be made payable to the Uxbridge Public Schools. Tuition is subject to change.

First Day of School

In order to ease the adjustment into kindergarten for your child, we will have staggered openings. Your child may come on Monday and stay home on Tuesday.

We encourage a parent to share this first day experience with your child by riding the bus, and attending a parent orientation. If you are unable to accompany your child, another family member may share this experience. We strongly recommend this if your child will be riding the bus throughout the school year. If you choose to drive your child instead of taking the bus on the first day, this is fine, but you would also need to take your child home to avoid confusion. Children will be brought directly into the classroom as they arrive.

Before/After School Child Care

Grades K through 4 students will be able to have before/after school childcare (fee for service) at the Taft School Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm. The before school child care includes breakfast at the Taft School. If you have any questions, you may call Mrs. Angeles Baldanza, Childcare Director at 508-278-8653

Parent Conferences/Progress Reports

Parent conferences are scheduled twice during the school year. These day and evening conferences are scheduled during Education Week in November and in mid-May. Be aware that at any time you may have a question about your child’s progress, his/her teacher will be more than happy to schedule time to discuss your concerns.
