Melissa Sue Guertin
”I’ve worked too hard and too long to let anything stand in
the way of my goals. I will not let my teammates down and I
will not let myself down” (Mia Hamm).
This quote is not only Melissa’s approach to life but also
her daily practice. When asked to describe Melissa, friends
and faculty readily call her intelligent, mature, confident,
bubbly, compassionate, and a great leader. She has an
internal drive to succeed as she consistently challenges
herself both in and outside of the classroom. Her academic
load includes AP and Honors level classes, she holds a 94
GPA, and she ranks 16th in her class. Melissa has been named
to the Honor Roll every quarter of her high school tenure.
Her passion outside of the classroom is soccer. She was
sidelined for medical reasons during portions of her
sophomore and junior seasons, but this did not stop her
dedication to her teammates and the sport. She still
attended games and demonstrated leadership, which is why she
was named co-captain of the JV squad her junior year.
Additionally, she has coached and refereed at the youth
soccer level, sharing her love of the sport with the youth
of Uxbridge. This fall, Melissa plans to attend Wentworth
Institute of Technology to study Architecture. This has been
a dream of hers for years. Melissa is an optimist who always
sees the glass as half-full. With her spirit and commitment
to excellence, she will always find a way to make that glass
filled to the brim.
Erik Koehn
Erik Koehn has been a great addition to the Uxbridge
community since his arrival from Rhode Island at the
beginning of his sophomore year. His accomplishments are
diverse in nature but Erik pursues each with enthusiasm and
sincerity. Erik has been fortunate to have traveled widely,
allowing him to have a wonderful perspective on the world
around him. Maybe because Erik has traveled so much, he is
always open to new people and their ideas. He is fluent in
German, his native tongue, as well as English, and is now
enrolled in an advanced French course. Erik has pursued
challenging academic courses at the honors level throughout
his years at UHS. His motivation to achieve is impressive
and evident in his decision to take seven honors classes
during his senior year. Erik’s desire to be a vital part of
the Uxbridge community is clear. He is part of the UHS
student mentoring program, has participated with the Taft
International Faire, completed a walk-a-thon, helped with a
silent auction, and assisted at the UHS baseball camp. Erik
has been active in athletics as well, competing in
cross-country, soccer, JV baseball, and winter and spring
track teams. He truly enjoys being part of the Uxbridge
community. In turn, the Uxbridge community enjoys his
company, always finding him respectful, polite, adventurous,
and just a great person to be around.
