Art

All grade levels will be getting a refresher unit on the elements and principles of design as well as taking part in the annual Duck Stamp contest. This year the 5th grade will explore impressionistic as well as multicultural art. The 6th grade will take part in lessons that involve sculpture and design such as mask making. The 7th grade will explore projects including painting techniques and possibly paper maché. The 8th grade units will be involved in visual design, carving techniques and printmaking.

Any art related donations are greatly appreciated and will be put to good use in the classroom. The art department has a need for cleaned out yogurt / cool whip-size containers or any craft material such as felt, string, paint, etc.

Music

Students in grades seven and eight have music for 45 consecutive days, students in grades 5 and six have music for 36 consecutive days.

Music in grade 5 will include: Playing of the Recorder, Patriotic Music and Treble Clef reading and writing. Students will travel to Mechanic’s Hall to participate in The Brown Bag for Kids Concert. Students will explore Music’s role in society, Music History and Music Theory. Students must bring with them to class their recorders from last year. If a student has lost or broken their recorder, students may purchase one for $5.

Music in grade 6 will include: the Symphony Orchestra, Introduction to the Opera, and Bass Clef reading and writing. Students will explore Music’s role in society, Music History and Music Theory.

Music in grade 7 will include: Music in our Society and a brief tour of Renaissance and Baroque Music, Music Careers and Musical Theater. Students will explore Music’s role in society, Music History and Music Theory.

Music in grade 8 will encompass Jazz Music, Careers in Music, and the classical and Romantic periods of music. Students will explore Music’s role in society, Music History and Music Theory.

All students should bring to class everyday the following:

1. A notebook either spiral bound or a three ring binder with loose leaf paper.

2. A pencil and pen (some of the music work needs to be completed in pencil so both will be necessary.

3. A folder with pockets

5. Soprano Recorder (Grade 5 only)
