Dear Parents:
The staff feels
that this is an excellent opportunity to make you aware of
our expectations in each academic area. This is important
because your child will have little time in school to
adequately complete assignments and study. Consequently this
places a great deal of emphasis on making sure that the work
is completed at home. It should also be noted that your
child will be receiving between an hour and an hour and a
half of homework each night. If work takes more time than
this, it could signify a potential problem.
Homework is
expected to be completed fully, on time, and be exemplary of
the student’s best efforts. In the event that excessive
assignments are due, parents will be notified. Hopefully,
this will eliminate the potential for serious problems. It
is, however, understood that a student with prolonged
illness or a legitimate reason will be given consideration.
The seventh grade
team asks for your support and cooperation in properly
supervising your child’s work. The PRIME RESPONSIBILITY
for learning still remains with the STUDENT. With
your help, we anticipate a successful year for every
student.
In addition, each
teacher is scheduled to offer extra help one afternoon a
week. Teachers often offer extra sessions on other days on
an as needed basis.

SCIENCE:
Mrs. Beane- Science will be a motivating, challenging
program of study, encompassing all areas of life science
within the Massachusetts Frameworks. Assignments will be
given nightly Monday through Thursday. Study skills are
taught within the core curriculum to allow students to
effectively prepare for assessments. In addition, Science
Today reports, which are cooperative group assignments,
will allow the learner to keep up to date in the area of
life science. Extra help is available and students are
encouraged to take advantage of this. The science class will
motivate, help to build self-esteem, instill proficient
study skills, and hopefully enlighten each student to reach
his or her potential.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
The social studies curriculum for 7th grade will involve the
areas of study detailed in the Massachusetts Social Studies
Curriculum Frameworks. They are Ancient Man, Mesopotamia,
Egypt, Greece, Israel, and Rome. These topics will include
the development of culture, civilization, and the
relationship between our own civilization and those long
passed into history. Using our textbooks and the History
Alive program, we hope students will find this year
rewarding and enjoyable. Parents are encouraged to get
involved with their child’s studies.
MATH:
Mrs. Clark, Mr. Sweet. Each student is expected to perform
to the best of his/her ability. Students should come to
class every day prepared with their textbook,
notebook/binder, pencil, and completed assignments.
Assignments should be done neatly, and have all work shown.
Homework is given on a regular basis. Assessments are given
at the end of each unit and quizzes are given periodically.
The math team members encourage anyone having difficulty to
see them for extra help.
LANGUAGE
ARTS/READING: Mrs. Halacy,
Mrs. Landini. Language Arts/Reading will be challenging but
rewarding. Teachers will work to create a classroom which
enhances academic learning, self-esteem, respect, and the
essential skills students will need in the future. Students
will be responsible for writing assignments, oral
presentations, cooperative learning activities, various
research assignments, and homework.
Spelling, sentence
correction/grammar, and vocabulary tests are given on a
weekly basis. Literature tests are usually given at the end
of a unit or at selected intervals in longer works. Extra
help is available, and we encourage all students to ask for
assistance.
