Students will be participating in the Whitin Warrior Challenge this week sponsored by our PTO. A reminder this is the PTO’s one and only fundraiser for the year. All money raised goes directly back to the school for field trips, end of year celebrations, furniture, books for the classroom and so much more. Please help your child raise funds, this is the last week to do so. There are also incentives for students who get donations, homeroom challenges, raffles for Airpods, gumball machines and Amazon gift cards.

As we enter into the last week of November we continue to be rolling with the curriculum in all content areas. Students in grades 4-6 are using STMath daily and really enjoying trying to get Jiji successfully across the screen. This program has proven to help students develop a deep conceptual understanding of math. We are fortunate to have this program at Whitin.

In 7th grade students have been presenting their social studies projects and are working with milkweed bugs in science. Students are developing their communication skills as well as their understanding of different habitats.

We hosted our first dance of the year this past Friday. We had over 300 students in attendance between the 4th & 5th grade social and 6th & 7th grade dance later in the evening. The kids had a blast dancing and eating lots of candy.

Thank you to the Student Council members and Student Council advisor Ms. Marshall for all their hard work in putting on such a great event for the Whitin students. We also appreciate the work of the Whitin PTO for helping with concessions.

This week we had our first all school assembly. It was so nice to see our entire student body in the gym listening to speakers, cheering on their classmates and building a sense of community. We discussed behavior expectations, listened to a book about World Smile Day and kicked off Fuel Up to Play 60 with jump roping demonstrations by some of our faithful Fuel Up participants. It really was a great assembly.

    Whitin Weekly Sept. 15th

We had another good week here at Whitin. Students were seen working collaboratively, engaged in meaningful activities in all content areas and using the Chromebooks to enhance their learning. Students are loving the new arrangement in the cafeteria and are enjoying the independence of sitting with who they choose to sit with. All grade levels have open seating which allows students to sit with their friends who they may not see in class. This freedom fosters independence and positive socialization. I am happy to report that students are displaying expected behavior in the cafeteria.

We had a great start to the school year at Whitin. Students came ready to learn, eager to see their friends and excited to meet their new teachers. I have been very impressed with how well students are falling into routines and demonstrating expected behavior. Particularly in the lunch room, students are following routines and enjoying the independence of sitting where they would like and with whom they would like.
