UXBRIDGE — Superintendent Michael Baldassarre is pleased to share that Uxbridge High School Principal Michael Rubin has been selected to present at the National Future of Education Technology Conference (FETC).

The 2023 National Future of Education Technology Conference will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.

During the conference, Principal Rubin will facilitate a two-hour workshop titled "The New School: Reimagining the School Through Career Pathways." Rubin is one of approximately two dozen presenters, selected from a pool of several hundred applicants.

During the workshop, participants will learn how a traditional comprehensive high school shifted its program of studies, graduation requirements, and traditional methods of instruction to a whole-school approach to career learning, without giving up some academic elements from a traditional high school. Participants will see how redefining some roles and courses led to reductions in disciplinary referrals, improved attendance, and better overall academic performance, including an increase in post-secondary credit and credential opportunities.

Now in his ninth year as Principal of Uxbridge High School, Rubin has successfully led Uxbridge High School’s designation as a Commonwealth of Massachusetts Innovation Pathway School, making Uxbridge one of the first four schools in the state to earn this distinction.

In addition to his role as principal, Rubin currently serves as a DESE Peer Ambassador for Innovation Pathways, Chair of the Blackstone Valley Ed Hub Board of Advisors, and Massachusetts State Coordinator for the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

Under Rubin's direction, Uxbridge High School has also been recognized as a member of the National Consortium of Secondary STEM Schools and the CAPS Network and is the only comprehensive high school in Massachusetts to have earned Project Lead the Way program distinction for the past three years.

Rubin has previously presented on the state and national level regarding Uxbridge High School's commitment to authentic learning, building partnerships with local industry, leveraging student learning styles and reimagining secondary schools.

In 2020, Rubin was named Massachusetts High School Principal of the Year. He holds a master's degree from Bridgewater State University, a bachelor's degree from Brown University, and is currently completing his doctoral work through the University of the Cumberlands.

"Our accomplishments and the opportunity to present about them comes about because of a great many people's hard work, especially our staff and students, as providing a context for their journey will be the main focus of this presentation."
