Weekly News and Notes, February 9
ere are some updates from UHS for this week:
1. We have our basketball senior games next week. On Monday, girls basketball hosts Oxford at 6:30. On Thursday, boys basketball will host Northbridge at 6:30. In addition, on Thursday we will recognize the field hockey team and hang the 2023 championship banner. We will also be hanging the 2023 football Super Bowl championship banner, and the Central Massachusetts Football Officials Association will be on hand to award our football team with its Sportsmanship Award for the second straight year. We hope many people will be able to join us!
2. The basketball teams will also be playing in the Clark Tournament, with games scheduled next Saturday, February 17. The girls will be at West Boylston against Hopedale at 1:45 p.m., and the boys face Hopedale at Oxford, at 5:00.
3. Be on the lookout for course recommendation sheets for next year. The process for 2024-25 scheduling will begin in March.
4. The school counseling office has been providing seniors with a number of scholarship opportunities. Also, seniors have been directed to respond with information, both related to their diplomas and cap and gown measurements. We do need this information promptly, and many scholarships have time-sensitive deadlines. We do not always include parents on these communications.
5. At last week's School Committee Budget Subcommittee meeting, our district's administrative team provided the School Committee with its first look at the proposed 2024-25 budget. Our request from UHS intends to maintain as many programs as possible, and the present request also keeps sports, activities, and transportation free of fees. We will be engaging the School Committee and community in dialogue, both around the school budget and capital requests, over the next weeks and months, and we will continue to share updates. At present, our goal is to continue offering the same level of supports, opportunities, courses, programs, and cocurricular activities, with a few modest enhancements.
Have a great weekend!
