In Grade 7, instructional time will focus on four critical areas: (1) developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships, (2) developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations, (3) solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume, and (4) drawing inferences about populations based on samples.

Each student is expected to perform to the best of his/her ability. Students should come to class every day prepared with their binder, agenda, pencils and completed homework assignments. As educators we are encouraging students to become independent learners who can reason through their answers. Thus, homework is a very large part of math and is assigned on a regular basis. Assignments should be done neatly and have all work shown. We will also be gauging our teaching on the development of skills, thus both formative and summative assessments will be used. Larger summative assessments will be given after every unit, and shorter quizzes will be given on a more frequent basis. The math team members encourage anyone having difficulty to see them for extra help or visit the Math Lab which is open on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday after school.
