Strategic Plan

  • October, 2019

    Dear Uxbridge School Community,

We are proud to share with you the Uxbridge Public Schools 2019-2022 Strategic Plan.  This multi-year action plan represents the vision and the values of our school community and the initiatives and strategies that we believe creates a learning environment in which all of our children can succeed.

We formally began this process in January 2019 and concluded this month with School Committee approval of the plan. Following the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Planning for Success process recommended for district strategic planning and continuous improvement, we embraced an inclusive approach to gain a range of perspectives across the community.

By building ownership and engagement at the outset, we were able to gain an objective look at our school district through the varying values, experiences, wants, and needs of our different stakeholder groups.  Opportunities for parents, community members, students and staff were held throughout the winter and spring in addition to the numerous meetings and events conducted from June 2018 through March 2019 as part of the Superintendent’s Entry Plan.

With the support of our 22 member Steering Committee, our administrative team presented the Vision, Values, Theory of Action, and three major Goals that emerged from our work to the School Committee in June.  Over the course of the summer, many hours were devoted to developing initiatives and strategies that would operationalize our goals over the next three years. The result is an ambitious plan that is both foundational and asprirational and will serve as our compass for moving forward.  We were thrilled to be able to share it with our entire staff on their first day back in August.

The 2019-2020 District Improvement Plan (DIP) represents the first year of our Strategic Plan and sharpens the focus of our work through identified action steps, necessary resources, expected outcomes, responsible staff, and timeframes. These elements will provide the means to monitor the plans and report both the progress and impact of the initiatives to the staff and public.   Like the Strategic Plan, the DIP is ambitious by design.

The Strategic Plan and DIP are our best bets to improve student success.  As they are live documents, we will use the information from our practice to make the appropriate adjustments as necessary.  The work done this year on our DIP, for example, will inform any necessary changes to Year 2 of our Strategic Plan and next year’s DIP.

Thank you for your continued support of our efforts to serve the children and families of Uxbridge. Should you have any questions regarding either plan feel free to contact me directly or your child’s building administrator.

    Sincerely,

    Frank A. Tiano, Ed.D
