Attends WorldStrides OnStage Heritage Music Festival
Sixty-three students from the Uxbridge High School Music Department traveled to Philadelphia, PA from April 11th-14th to participate in the WorldStrides OnStage Heritage Music Festival. Given their performances, the Concert Choir earned a Silver Medal with a rating of Excellent, while the Concert Band earned a Gold Medal with rating of Superior. UHS senior Matthew Coolbrith was awarded the Maestro Award by the judges for his outstanding performance with the Concert Choir. Both ensembles were led by Mrs. Kathleen Penza and the Concert Choir was accompanied by Mr. Andrew Kosiba.
A highlight of the trip was a 90-minute clinic for the Concert Band with Dr. Wesley Broadnax from Drexel University. Students also visited many sites throughout Philadelphia including the Eastern State Penitentiary, National Constitution Center, and Franklin Institute. In addition, they took a 90-minute guided walking tour of the city visiting such sites as the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall while learning about our history. The ghost tour was equally thrilling!
The UHS Music Department would like to thank the Uxbridge School Committee, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Tiano, and Uxbridge High School Principal Michael Rubin and the Uxbridge Friends of Music for their continued support of the music programs in the Uxbridge Public Schools.
