  • Dear Families,

Welcome to an exciting year as your child enters first grade.  This year will be one of the most exciting years your child will experience in school.  First grade is a year of tremendous growth and you will notice your child building a foundation of new skills each week to use for their future learning success.

As first grade teachers, we want all first graders to love learning and to have a positive self-esteem.  We recognize that each child will progress at his/her own rate, gaining skills as they are developmentally ready.  It is our goal that all first graders at Taft Early Learning Center will develop a solid foundation of learning.

As parents, you are your child’s first teacher.  Reading to your child is the single most important thing that you can do to assist your child on a path of lifelong learning.  Make daily reading time a priority and take the time to discuss reading.  Ask questions such as “What was your favorite part?”  “Can you tell me more about that?”

We believe in the importance of a home-school partnership and invite you to reach out to your child’s teacher at any time should you have any questions regarding your child’s academic progress or well-being.

    Sincerely,

    The First Grade Team
