Dear Families,
Welcome to 3rd Grade! We look forward to working with all students to help them become more independent, responsible, and ready to move on to Whitin. The 3rd grade team has consistent expectations for students in the following areas:
- Homework includes 20 minutes of reading and practicing math facts (multiplication/division) Monday-Thursday.
- Being prepared and responsible with school materials everyday
- Chromebook charged
- Chromebook to and from home
- Homework folder to and from home
- Pencils, etc.
- Lunch/snack
- Library books returned on due date
- Keeping folder and materials organized
The 3rd grade curriculum topics are as follows:
Language Arts-
- Phonics- Wilson Fundations Level 3 and Lexia
- Reading- Fountas and Pinnell Mini lessons and Interactive Read Alouds following a workshop model.
- Writing- Lucy Calkins Writing Units (Crafting True Stories, Changing the World, The Art of Information Writing)
Math-
- Illustrative Mathematics Curriculum for Grade 3
- ST Math
Science-
- Mystery Science online Curriculum-aligned to MA Common Core Standards (Force, Motion, and Magnets, Weather and Climate, Animal Survival and Heredity, Plant Life Cycle and Heredity)
Social Studies-
- Massachusetts Towns and Cities Today and In History.
- The Geography and Native Peoples of Massachusetts,
- European Explorers’ First Contact with Native Peoples in the Northeast.
- The Pilgrims, The Plimoth Colony, and Native Communities.
- The Puritans, The Massachusetts Bay Colony, Native Peoples, and Africans.
- Massachusetts in the 18th Century through the American Revolution.
