Accommodating Children with Special Dietary Needs in the School Nutrition Program
If a child has been determined by a doctor to be disabled and the disability (ie. food intolerances or allergies) would prevent the child from eating the regular school meal, the school will make substitutions as prescribed by a Physician. Information must be provided to the school nurse.
Schools may, but are not required to make substitutions for students who have a "special" dietary need that has not been verified by a doctor. The student must meet the definition of having a disability.
Lactose-Free Milk or Soy milk is available by request of the parent or guardian for those students with a non-disabling dietary need. (such as milk intolerance, or reasons due to cultural, religious, or ethnic beliefs)
Please note dietary preferences are not considered a medical need.
