UHS Athletic Director Earns Statewide Recognition

Uxbridge High School Principal Dr. Michael Rubin is proud to announce that the Athletic Director of the Uxbridge Public Schools, Beth Wandyes, has earned the Ted Damko Award, given by the Massachusetts Secondary Schools Athletic Directors Association.

“When we hired Ms. Wandyes, we knew we were bringing a talented, dedicated, and intelligent leader to our district, and it’s validating to see her efforts rewarded by her colleagues,” said Dr. Rubin. “Her contributions to Uxbridge and our league have been incredible, it is a privilege to support her hard work and commitment.”

The Ted Damko Award is a prestigious honor reserved for athletic administrators in their third through fifth year of service who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and a commitment to the highest professional standards. Named in memory of the longtime Leominster High School Athletic Director and MSSADA pioneer, the award recognizes those who have made an immediate and significant impact on their school communities and the local athletic landscape.

Now in her fourth year at Uxbridge High School, Ms. Wandyes came to her role after a lengthy and decorated career at Bryant University, where she supported the Division I programs in a variety of capacities, including lead compliance officer, a sport supervisor and liaison with financial, academic support, and student affairs. She also spent time as a college basketball coach and is a member of the Hall of Fames and a 1000-point scorer at both her high school, Ponaganset, and  at Bryant. Since arriving at UHS, she has supported the transition from the Southern Worcester County League to the Central Massachusetts Athletic Conference, as a member of the bylaws committee and as the league’s recording secretary. She is also the Media Coordinator for the historic Clark Tournament.  In addition, Ms. Wandyes has contributed to a number of efficiencies and effective improvements in the department. She has enhanced the Student Athlete Ambassadors program, launched a Captains Council, and a number of other initiatives in the school.

“I am truly humbled and honored to receive the Ted Damko Athletic Director of the Year Award,” said Ms. Wandyes. “To be recognized with an award named after someone who represents integrity, leadership, and dedication to student-athletes means so much to me. This honor reflects the amazing people who make Uxbridge High School Athletics special, our student-athletes, coaches, families, staff, and community. I am incredibly grateful for the support and leadership of our principal, Dr. Mike Rubin, whose commitment to our students helps our programs thrive.”

Ms. Wandyes will be recognized at the annual conference of the athletic directors later this March.

“As I complete my fourth year at Uxbridge High School, I continue to be inspired every day by the character, resilience, and heart of our students and staff. Athletics teaches powerful lessons in teamwork, responsibility, and perseverance, and I am proud to be part of a community that truly values those experiences. Thank you to MSSADA and my colleagues across the state for this meaningful recognition. I share this award with everyone who contributes to the success of our programs. It is a privilege to serve in this role, and I look forward to continuing to support and advocate for our student-athletes.”
