Uxbridge Tech Update: Quick tips for spotting phishing and spam emails

Dear Parents, Guardians, and the Uxbridge Community,

Scammers are getting more creative, and schools are not immune. If you receive an email that appears to come from our district, whether from a principal, teacher, or staff member, please take a moment to verify before clicking any links or responding with personal information.

Here are a few red flags to watch for:
  • The sender's email address doesn't match our school domain, or has slight misspellings (our domain is uxbridge.k12.ma.us)
  • The message creates a sense of urgency, asking you to act immediately, pay a fee, or verify your account
  • You're asked to click an unfamiliar link or open an unexpected attachment
  • The tone or formatting doesn't feel quite right for the person it claims to be from
What to Do If an Email Feels "Off":
  • Do not click links, reply, or open any unexpected attachments.
  • Verify independently: Call the school office directly using a number you already have—never use a phone number listed inside the suspicious email.
  • Report it: Forward the message to helpdesk@uxbridge.k12.ma.us so our Technology Department can look into it right away.

Staying alert is the best defense. Thank you for helping us keep our school community safe.
